Tips for the binge eater

1. Do not sit down with the whole box. Even wheat thins have their limit. Take a handful then put the box away. The box is more convenient to carry? That's why they make sandwich bags, my friend. If you have the box with you YOU WILL EAT THE WHOLE THING WITHOUT THINKING ABOUT IT. If you are a true binge eater you should know this by now.
2. Make yourself a shopping list and stick to it. Plan your meals a week ahead. Write them down including snacks and stick to it. Not only will it keep you from picking up a cart full of snack foods but it will also keep money in your wallet.
3. Drink not 1 but 2 cups of water before you begin eating every day. Make it a habbit. This way if you have a binge panic moment your mind will auto tell you to drink first. For people like me who eat until they throw up it makes you sick faster. Don't beat yourself up. Just be prepared.
4. Avoid the drive thru. Walk inside. Being seen means YOU'RE BEING SEEN. It's not secret if everyone sees you carrying 2 drinks and 2 meals. Binge eaters avoid being seen in public. Eat there. Do not eat alone in a panic. At this moment it's good to be paranoid.
5. Don't make extra food. Make enough. That way if you want more you have to make it. This includes buying food from restaurants. Either you're going to have to get back in the car and drive back there or you will have to ask the waiter for more food. You're not going to want to do either. By the time you get ready for it the craving should be over.
6. Get busy. Don't be at home. If you're relaxing, do it outside, read a good book in the library, relax at a friends house. If you get social you're less likely to eat.
7. Keep a bowl of fruit out. Put it next to you when you're at the computer. Keep it between the living room and the kitchen. If you're gonna binge, eat the right foods. Apples, bananas, and pomegranate are the best for this. Apples fill you up faster, bananas keep you full, and pomegranate are so low in cal and take forever to eat.
8. Don't panic, pray. Meditate. Sing a song to your duck statue. I don't care what your religion is but everyone has one. Atheists appreciate themselves. Meditate on your body and forgive it for the craving but don't allow yourself to hurt yourself. For Christians, you know you can't do this alone and God wants your temple to be healthy. He WILL help you. Focus on him. For duck lovers, I don't know what he offers but I'm sure he likes your body too. Being healthy is being pure. You're doing this for you and the 12 steps (for alcoholics, drug addicts, and over eaters) has proven that turning to your religion is the BEST defense you have.

When I googled binge eating tips those were the first 10 pages to come up. If there's this many GOOD pages in just the first ten realize YOU ARE NOT ALONE IN THIS. Everyone wants to help. This is something you can talk to others about. I'm sure if you told your friends they would not put you in positions to eat, and in fact I'm sure if they're real friends they will go out of their way to help you.
I finally told my mom about it today. I've told co-workers, my husband, my dad, my sister, I would have told my brother but I couldn't get ahold of him. Once I started talking I wasn't scared to say it.. except to my mom. But I did it. And you know what? She knew there was a problem but didn't know it was this bad. She didn't cry, she wasn't upset, she wasn't disappointed... she's supportive. That's what you're going to find. so last but not least on my list is
9. Find your support. People are going to be supportive of this. The last thing they would want is for you to suffer. If you don't have a support system Email me at Forgivenscreenprints@yahoo.com I'm here for you.

So its an end to another blog.
Love hugs and other fun stuff,
Laura.
